Acute appendicitis with contained perforation

47 yr male presented with acute vomiting and abdominal pain
Ultrasound findings:

  • Appendix is thickened measuring 10 mm in maximum diameter.
    Mild periappendiceal inflammatory fat stranding noted.
  • Focal wall defect measuring 3.8 mm noted near tip of appendix with adjacent contained collection of 5 x 5 mm.
  • No evidence of abscess.
  •  Features suggestive of Acute appendicitis with contained perforation.
